It’s easy to see why the Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado, are purported to be “the most photographed mountains in North America.” When I visited them in autumn of 2012, I was fortunate they had fewer tourists than normal, even though the yellows of the aspen trees at their base enhanced their beauty.
For most of the photos I shot at the Maroon Bells, I lowered my tripod to a short height and got on my hands and knees to manipulate the camera.
