When I visited the American Northeast for leaf peeping during autumn of 2013, the federal government indulged in “Washington Monument Syndrome” by closing the national park system during a budget dispute. I read about Camden Hills State Park as an alternative to Acadia National Park, and it turned out to have enjoyable views of the Atlantic Ocean and the town of Camden. I wish I could have visited Acadia, but my trip to Maine was still rewarding.
